Morattico parade set July 1

The Morattico Waterfront Museum will host the annual Independence Day parade beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 1.

The parade grand marshals of the parade, will be former professional baseball players Alan Closter and Jim Coates, reported museum president Deborah Edgar.

Closter originally signed with the New York Yankees and played professional baseball for several teams including the Yankees, Atlanta Braves and Richmond Braves.

Coates was an American League All-Star and a champion for the New York Yankees, having one of the highest winning percentages of any pitcher in Yankee history.

Parade participant line-up will start at 10:30 a.m. at Sunnybrook and Morattico Road.

After the parade, the public is invited for a potluck picnic. Grilled hot dogs, lemonade, ice tea and water will be provided. Participants are urged to bring a side dish to share.
