Morattico roadside marker is unveiled

LITWALTON—In September 2021, the Virginia Board of Historic Resources authorized 18 new roadside historical markers across the Commonwealth. Among them is one highlighting the quaint, waterfront village of Morattico.

Last Thursday, present and past Morattico Waterfront Museum board members gathered at the site of the new marker on River Road, near its intersection with Morattico Road, for a brief dedication ceremony and unveiling.

According to museum president David Henley, the sign was made possible through a generous donation from the late Richard Russell, who died in January 2021. Unfortunately, Russell didn’t live to see the sign erected, said Henley. The process has taken several years.
