Lately, traveling in the lower Northern Neck means mapping out a route through a maze of detours. Motorists are forced to add miles and minutes to their drive times to avoid multiple road closures in Northumberland and Lancaster counties.
And, unfortunately, many of those roads won’t reopen any time soon, according to Kelly Hannon, communications manager with the Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) Fredericksburg District.
Over 100 state-maintained roads were damaged and closed in the Fredericksburg District alone following Tropical Storm Michael in October 2018. Seven of those roads remain closed…
