Nancy L. C. Harris

NORTH PRINCE GEORGE—Nancy Leigh Courtney Harris, 87, of North Prince George passed away January 13, 2026, peacefully, surrounded by love.

Born on August 23, 1938, in Lancaster, Nancy lived a life defined by faith, family and a heart for others. She was a devoted member of Rivers Edge Bible Church in Hopewell, where her gentle spirit and steady faith were evident to all who knew her.

Nancy spent many years working as a special education bus driver and cafeteria aide, roles she embraced with patience, kindness and genuine care. She had a natural way with children, treating every child she encountered as if they were her own. Her warmth, humor and compassion left lasting impressions on countless lives.

Above all, Nancy was a devoted and fiercely loving mother. She showed up for her sons in every season of life—offering guidance, encouragement and unwavering support. Whether in moments of celebration or challenge, her sons always knew she was there, standing behind them with love, prayer, and quiet strength. Her role as their mother was one she cherished deeply and carried with pride.

She was proudly known as a ball-field Nanny, faithfully cheering from the sidelines and celebrating every milestone, big or small. She rarely missed a game and never missed an opportunity to show her love and support.

Nancy treasured time with her family and especially loved her hometown of Lancaster, where simple pleasures like oysters and blue crabs, shared with family and laughter, brought her the greatest joy.

Her greatest joy was being a devoted wife of 66 years, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her love was steady, unconditional and deeply felt by all who were blessed to know her.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to her devoted caregiver, Yolanda, whose compassion and kindness brought comfort and dignity to Nancy in her final chapter.

She is survived by her loving husband, William Harris; her children, William Kent Harris (Connie) and Norman Harris; grandchildren, Aaron (Sheri), Taylor (Kevin), Adam (Brianna) and Carter Harris; and great-grandchildren, Kamden, Baileigh, Piper and Logan. She is also survived by her lifelong best friend, Brenda Kreider.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harding Courtney and Mildred Saunders Courtney; and her brother, Harvey Courtney.

Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, February 3, at Rivers Edge Bible Church, with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens, North Prince George. A meal will be provided in the Rivers Edge Bible Church Fellowship Hall following the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Rivers Edge Bible Church.

Arrangements are entrusted to E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory.

Nancy’s life was a blessing to her family and all who knew her. Her love, kindness and quiet strength will live on through generations.
