CLARAVILLE— As the school board finalizes its proposed $23,147,438 budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year, concerns over certain efficiencies have been expressed by the Northumberland County Education Association (NCEA).
During public comment at the Monday, February 12, school board meeting, NCEA president Shelby Brooks thanked board members for their service, support and dedication to the school system. However, Brooks also questioned recent cuts reflected in the proposed budget for next year.
Brooks noted that while she and the NCEA understand and appreciate the board working towards creating a balanced budget that only has minor increases, she wished the public had been given a comment period prior to particular cuts. She referenced four staffing cuts, including a high school math….
