KILMARNOCK—The Lancaster school board met January 14 as a new board for the first time since the November elections.
New member Cindy Clarke representing District 3, joined Katherine Keith from District 1; Kenya Moody, re-elected in District 2; Joan Gravatt, re-elected in District 4, and Carolyn Young from District 5.
In their first official act, Gravatt was elected chairman of the board in a 4-0 vote with Keith, Moody, Clarke and Young in favor. Kenya Moody was elected vice chairman in a 3-0 vote, with Keith, Clarke and Young in favor. Gravatt announced that as chairman she would be following Robert’s Rules of Order, where the chair only votes on motions in the case of a tie.
In other 4-0 votes, Amanda Molineaux and Jennifer Benson were elected clerk and deputy clerk of the board, and the board also voted to hold public work sessions on the first Thursday of every month at 3:15 p.m. in the LCPS Annex, 235 School Street, Kilmarnock.
School calendar
Superintendent Dan Russell presented a draft of the 2020-21 school year calendar. The proposed school year would begin on August 24 and end on May 28.
