New superintendent stresses basics for Lancaster schools

LANCASTER—While students are enjoying their summer break, the superintendent of Lancaster schools has rolled up his sleeves in preparation for the next academic year and beyond.

Dan Russell was appointed interim superintendent by the school board three months ago, but he’s already put a lot of thought in how he wants to move forward.

“Keep it simple. Make sure lesson plans are aligned with standards and teachers are remediating when needed,” Russell said.

He expects this approach to simplicity to reap greater rewards. “If we take the simple stuff and we do it very well, then everything else should fall in line,” Russell said.
