Auburn scored four goals in the final eight minutes June 8 to end Northumberland High School’s successful season run as the Class 1 state girls soccer runner-up.

The Lady Indians clawed their way through a four overtime semifinal to win by shootout over Honaker and earn a berth in the championship, where the Eagles defeated NHS, 6-2, ending the best season in NHS girls soccer history. The Indians capped a 17-3 campaign as both the Northern Neck District and Super Region 1A/2A champions.
Northumberland scored 89 goals and only gave up 26 this year, including the six in the state final.
“All season long we’ve had excellent offense, solid smart midfield and an excellent defense,” said coach Mark Fridenstine.
NHS leading scorer Eliza Leo produced all of the Indians offense in the championship….
