Rappahannock wins four state titles

Rappahannock High School brought four state titles home to the Northern Neck last week, winning three Virginia High School League Class 1 girls tennis trophies and the Class 1 baseball championship. This was the Raiders’ fifth state baseball crown.

The RHS girls tennis team is a back-to-back state champion with two consecutive undefeated seasons. The Lady Raiders defeated George Wythe, 5-0, in a finals match that included two tie-break wins in the singles. RHS had earned a championship berth with a semifinal win over Mathews, 5-0, and a quarterfinal win over Appomattox Regional Governor’s School, 5-0.

In the doubles tournament, Laney Williams and Maggie Wonderling won the state championship over Alex DiGrassie and Taylor Hassett of Buffalo Gap, 6-1, 6-2. They advanced to the final with a 2-1 semifinal win over Emerson Hardin and Angela Myers.

Sadie Packett won the state singles championship….
