Traffic is restricted to one lane while the repaving of the Robert O. Norris Jr. Memorial Bridge continues, leading to this recent rush hour backup. Although delays average 15-20 minutes, there have been instances of 45-minute waits. The longest wait times to cross the bridge are between 3 and 6 p.m., according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Construction crews, representing contractor Allan Myers, are working 24 hours a day on weekdays, weather permitting, as well as some weekends. The project involves milling to remove the existing layer of concrete and paving with asphalt and the additive material, Rosphalt. The estimated completion date is September 3.
