NORTH WEEMS—Longtime residents bid farewell to a chunk of their heritage on September 18 when the iconic JJ Kellum’s Country Store building on John’s Neck Road was demolished.
The building has been a part of the North Weems landscape since 1901 when it was built by William I. Kellum. It remained open until 2017, said Kellum’s grandson, Tommy Kellum.
The center portion of the building was a Sears and Roebuck kit building. Like most of the country stores across the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula, it was once a busy gathering place for….
