The Northern Neck District garnered the Virginia High School League’s three top honors in Class 1 football.
After claiming the school’s first state football championship, 49-14 over Rye Cove, Rappahannock claimed two of the top honors with quarterback C.J. Kelly selected as the Class 1 offensive player of the year and William West, coach of the year.
Xzayviia Bundy of Essex High School was named the state’s defensive player of the year. Essex finished as a state semifinalist after losing to the Raiders.
Kelly also was an offensive first-team selection as an all-purpose player and a first-team selection at defensive back. The 6’0”, 170-pound Kelly passed for 1,423 yards and 22 touchdowns. He also surpassed 1,000 rushing yards, gaining 1,224 yards on 151 carries and scoring 19 touchdowns. He finished the season with 2,647 yards in total offense and accounted for 41 touchdowns….
