Northern Neck Family YMCA conducts contactless food drive

The Northern Neck Family YMCA recently hosted a contactless food drive to support families struggling with food insecurity.

In partnership with Healthy Harvest Food Bank, the event allowed the YMCA to provide services to meet the needs of the community during the COVID-19 health crisis. Area residents contributed 2,343 pounds of food and monetary donations.

The YMCA parking lot was the staging area for arriving automobiles to pull up to the front of the building and have the masked and gloved YMCA team remove the food from their vehicles. Volunteers were careful to practice social distancing during each drop-off.

“The turnout was amazing,” said executive Liz Allen. “So many people and organizations were coming in to donate that I lost count of the number of cars after we reached 92.”
