The Northern Neck History Fair recently celebrated its 23rd year with an awards presentation at Historic Christ Church & Museum. Since 2002, the Foundation for Historic Christ Church (FHCC) has hosted this annual competition.
Local elementary students enter by creating projects on an event, person or cultural development related to Virginia from 1607-1789, a period that is part of the students’ Virginia studies curriculum, reported executive director Robert Teagle.
Local businesses Chesapeake Bank, Connemara Corporation and Anna’s Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria of Kilmarnock help sponsor the event.
Berkley Paige Grass’ “Bricks in VA History” won first place and $100. Emma Dubose and Amaya Webb teamed up to win second place and $75 each for their excellent project on Ann Burras, one of the first two English women to come to the Jamestown colony. Third place and a $50 prize went to Rhen McDonald for his detailed exhibit on the “Raid of the Coan River,” which took place on lands where McDonald and his family live today.
Honorable mentions and $25 went to….
