Northumberland joins regional effort seeking a state grant to expand broadband services

HEATHSVILLE—Northumberland County supervisors voted unanimously on Thursday, August 8, to contribute $5,000 towards a regional grant application requesting state funding to support the extension of broadband services to underserved portions of the county.

The grant, if awarded, would come from the Virginia Telecommunication Initiative (VATI), a program that provides matching financial assistance to localities trying to extend broadband services by supplementing construction costs for private sector service providers.
