HEATHSVILLE—During the Wednesday, March 1, quarterly meeting of the Northumberland board of supervisors and school board, superintendent Dr. Holly Wargo reviewed the proposed $23,143,557 budget for fiscal year 2023-24.
The total represents a $2,231,668 increase from the current fiscal year. Nearly all of that increase would come from local funding of $15,454,564, up $2,154,830.
Other projected revenue includes sales tax receipts, $1,661,056; state funds, $4,887,552; federal funds, $1,064,335; and other sources, $76,050.
According to Wargo, nearly half of the proposed budget increase, $1,033,729, would provide a 5% increase for all division employees “plus a 1.25% step increase for all scaled employees,” and $300,222 would provide health insurance to bus and car drivers. Another $219,696 would cover a 9.9% increase in the cost of employee health care and….
