Northumberland planners continue talks on solar and livestock ordinances

HEATHSVILLE—The Northumberland planning commission on Thursday, July 22, continued talks on revising language to the large scale solar and residential waterfront ordinances before sending them to the board of supervisors for a public hearing and consideration.

While the county adopted a solar ordinance in 2018, the board of supervisors asked the commission to take another look back in April.

County planner Stuart McKenzie reminded the commission, “at the last meeting we tossed around what the requirements of the emergency response plan would be.”

McKenzie suggested, “instead of defining everything in the emergency response plan inside the ordinance,” that they follow what was done with the recently-approved conditional use permit request for the campground in Callao. “They just had that the emergency response plan would…
