HEATHSVILLE—After adding language to prioritize the dredging of the Little Wicomico River, the Northumberland planning commission on Thursday, August 28, completed its work on the comprehensive plan.
County planner Stuart McKenzie will forward the plan to the Virginia Department of Transportation and the Department of Environmental Quality for comments and approvals.
During a related public hearing, resident Sandra Maynard asked that the Little Wicomico River be prioritized in the comprehensive plan to qualify for project funding. “This is important because if you look at the requirements to obtain community project funding, it says that the planning documents of the jurisdictions that are requesting the funds line up with the goals,” she said.
Currently, the Northern Neck Planning District Commission (NNPDC) is in Phase 3 of the Northern Neck Shallow Draft Dredging Plan. Phases 1 and 2, funded through….
