Lancaster expected to halt commercial helicopter landings in residential area; work on new recreational sites updated

LANCASTER—Lancaster supervisors on Thursday, August 28, unanimously approved a measure authorizing director of planning and land use Olivia Hall to investigate and possibly issue a cease and desist letter, effectively putting a stop to commercial helicopter flights landing in a Fleets Bay Neck neighborhood.

The action was taken following a presentation by resident Sally Okun. In the same motion, supervisors directed the planning commission to review the ordinances related to private heliports.

Okun, who said she was speaking on behalf of 30 residents of the area, said neighbors first became aware of the situation in July when the property owner filed a special exception permit with the county to build a 35-foot by 35-foot helipad at….
