In February, the Northumberland Public Library, 7204 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville, will celebrate Black History Month with several Artisan Trail exhibits, including a photo collage of graduates from historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs).
HBCUs like Hampton University and Norfolk State University in Virginia, were largely established to serve black people after the Civil War and during the Jim Crow era of racial segregation, reported Pamela Hagy.
