HEATHSVILLE—When supervisors adopted the $21.8 million school budget in June, they did so with quarterly appropriations of about $5.4 million each. As has happened previously, the schools are requesting a change to that arrangement since overall expenditures are not spread evenly throughout the year.
At the August 14 board of supervisors meeting, Northumberland schools requested supplemental appropriations of $1,419,000 to cover large recurring expenditures and $941,000 for large contractual expenditures. This request is not over and above the approved budget, but would come out of the remaining $16.3 million that was approved but not appropriated.
“There are many types of expenditures that the schools incur up front in the first month or two of the fiscal year that benefit the remainder of the fiscal year. IT contracts, supplies.
