Northumberland school finances showing strong signs of progress

CLARAVILLE—For the first time in over a year, revenues recently were deposited by the Northumberland County School Board, reported volunteer financial facilitator Karen Pica on Thursday, December 18.

According to Pica, the on-going efforts of a financial cleanup across all sectors of the school district’s finances are showing strong signs of progress.

As of the school board meeting date, over $1 million had been paid in overdue and current bills, said Pica. There are several outstanding purchase orders and she and her team are waiting on guidance regarding priorities to complete payments.

For the first time since 2024, revenues have been deposited as well, showing positive movement in the financial cleanup, she said.

Additionally, Pica indicated fiscal year 2026-27 budget planning is in the early stages. She asked teachers and administrators to….
