Northumberland supervisors address some financial issues; work session slated on budget

HEATHSVILLE—Although there was no direct talk of the proposed $53.4 million budget and $0.14 real estate tax increase during their Thursday, June 8, meeting, Northumberland supervisors did address county finances in discussions regarding the school budget, seeking other sources of revenue, and looking to build transparency in county operations.

 A budget work session was scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday, June 15.

School finances

Responding to a board request for clarification, Northumberland County Public Schools finance director Tara Booth provided details regarding a construction grant. According to Booth, unspent funds could be carried forward to fiscal years 2024 and 2025. “The amount of this grant was $1,134,172 and it was based on LCI (local composite index) and ADM (average daily membership).
