Northumberland supervisors seek District 5 successor to complete unexpired term

HEATHSVILLE—The Northumberland board of supervisors plans to appoint a representative for District 5 to complete the unexpired term of the late supervisor Ronnie Jett.

During a special called meeting on Thursday, August 24, supervisor Tommy Tomlin suggested an application process to select a representative to fill the void. The seat is up for election in November.

County attorney Eric Gregory told board members they have 45 days following the day of Jett’s passing to fill the position, meaning the board has until September 19 to determine a representative for District 5.

Gregory also noted that the timing of Jett’s passing in relation to the general election means the board does not have to appoint a representative to fill in for the interim, but could operate with four members….
