Northumberland supervisors to form broadband authority

HEATHSVILLE—The Northumberland board of supervisors on Thursday, September 12, voted unanimously, 4-0, to form a broadband authority.

Board members Ronald Jett, Joseph Self, James Long and Thomas Tomlin voted in favor of forming a broadband authority, and to authorize the county attorney to draft related bylaws and articles of incorporation. Member Richard Haynie was absent.

We need to start moving forward with establishing internet/broadband in Northumberland County in many areas that right now do not have internet,” said Tomlin. “It takes time but we’ve got to start crawling.”

Northumberland County resident Jane Stilmar spoke during the public hearing portion of the meeting in favor of establishing a broadband authority.
