Nutshell racers enjoy brisk winds

Northern Neck Nutshell racers conducted a regatta Saturday, July 2, on the Great Wicomico River near Glebe Point.

The Northern Neck Nutshell racers gathered Saturday, July 2, on the Great Wicomico River for friendly competition. The wind was brisk and puffy, leading to some exciting moments. 

Among the highlights, Mike Saunders was sailing well until his boom snapped in a strong gust, reported Bill England. Starts were jammed and included at least one “over early” by racer England who then had to restart.

“I can say with certainty that when you are declared over early, you have no rights with respect to the other boats, and it is hard to get out of their way and return to the starting line to re-start….
