Opry Oldies Show set June 3

Virginia’s Li’l Ole Opry will kick up their heels Saturday, June 3, and take the audience back in time to the “good ol’ days” of country and rock and roll.

The show will feature the house band, Shades of Country, and all of the Opry singers plus some amazing guest stars performing the best songs of the 50s, 60s and 70s, reported manager Lynda Smith.

The show will be staged at Mathews High School, 9889 Buckley Hall Road, Mathews. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. and the show will begin at 8 p.m.

“This is one of the most requested shows we do each year,”said Smith. “Be prepared to reminisce with songs like “Today, I Started Loving You Again,’ ‘Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain,’ ‘You Can’t Hurry Love’ and ‘Dancing Queen.'”

William Earl Sadler will deliver his rendition of “Great Balls of Fire,” said Smith. The group will bring out the costumes and dance moves perfect for a night of oldies.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for ages 12 and younger.

Folks can win tickets each show by listening to WIGO Country (104.9 FM) and WXGM (Xtra 99.1 FM). Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Mathews Visitor Center and Beach Bum BBQ in Mathews and Marketplace Antiques in Hayes. Tickets also are available at the door on show night.
