Concert proceeds to support LHS band trip

The Lancaster High School Jazz Band is preparing for their part of the Lancaster County Jazz Showcase at 7 p.m. Friday, June 9, at the Lancaster Middle School Theater, 191 School Street, Kilmarnock. They will perform with the Lancaster Middle School Jazz Band and the Northern Neck Big Band.

The LHS Jazz Band will perform music in different styles, including well known hits such as “Night Train” and “In The Midnight Hour.”

“I like to have them learn a variety of styles,” said director Kenny Flester. “We’ve got swing, rock, r & b, latin and New Orleans music all in one concert.”

This is the fifth annual showcase concert and promises to be a very exciting performance, said Flester. It’s also a special night for the seniors.

“Not only is it the last concert of the year, it’s also their last performance of their high school band careers. They will definitely be missed,” he said.

Seniors who will be playing their last concert are Wyatt McCranie, Destiny Carter, Zach Benton and Michael McGrath.

Admission is $5. The concert is a fund raiser for the Lancaster Band Boosters, who are trying to raise money to pay for the buses to take the band to the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Fla., at the end of the year.
