Orchestra to observe Bernstein’s birthday

The Northern Neck Orchestra on October 27 will honor legendary composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein in commemoration of the 100th year of his birth.

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Lancaster Middle School Theater, 191 School Street, Kilmarnock. A pre-concert talk by music director Michael Repper will begin at 6:45 p.m.

Tickets are $30 and may be purchased at www.northernneckorchestra.org or at the door. Students are admitted free with an online reservation. Season tickets are $75.

The orchestra will perform two Bernstein compositions, CBS Music and Slava!, as a part of a worldwide celebration of his life and career called “Leonard Bernstein at 100.” The concert also will feature Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5 with soloist Grace Park and Sibelius’ Finlandia…
