Oyster Festival 2024 winners announced

URBANNA—The Northern Neck was well represented at the 67th Urbanna Oyster Festival Friday and Saturday, November 1 and 2, in Urbanna. While many local residents attended the two-day festival, several folks and organizations brought home awards.

Joey McComas of Weems placed third in the 2024 Virginia State Official Oyster Shucking Competition, men’s professional division.

The Northumberland High School Marching Band won the top award in the Oyster Festival parade and the Lancaster High School Marching Red Devils Band placed second among bands.

Several local fire and rescue units brought home trophies following the Fireman’s Parade on Friday, November 1, hosted by the Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department. Fifty-five units were judged and the department traveling the farthest was Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department in Westmoreland County.

Hailey Bruce was crowned the 2024 Oyster Festival Queen and Josie Anton was crowned Little Miss Spat.
