Pamela A. H. Howard

Pamela A. H. Howard

WEEMS—Pamela Ann Howard (Hill), 53, of Weems passed away Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Riverside Walter Reed Hospice after a long courageous battle with colon cancer. Pam left this world exactly as she came in, prematurely; born the day before Independence Day in 1970 at Prince George’s General Hospital in Cheverly, Md., and weighing a whopping 3 pounds,14 ounces, she was the youngest child born to James (Chuck) E. Hill of Port Tobacco, Md., and Betty J. Hill (Sproesser) of Waldorf, Md.

Pam is survived by her husband, Daniel Lawrence Howard; her son, Dalton Logan Howard and his wife, Theresa Gale Howard; her grandchild, Drake Leo Howard; her father, James (Chuck) E. Hill and his wife, Joyce Bowie; her mother, Betty J. Hill (Sproesser); her brother, Kenneth W. Hill; and numerous nieces and one nephew.

Pam grew up in Charles County, Md., in the Country Club South Subdivision just a few houses down from the old Nike Missile Base. As a child she spent most of her time outside waiting for the porch lights to come on indicating it was time for dinner. Pam and her friends had the run of the neighborhood, hanging out at Spring Lake or the railroad trestle or walking to the Quick Stop for candy.

Growing up she was taught a strong work ethic selling produce by the bridge to St. Charles with her mom from her family’s farm in Port Tobacco. When she turned 16 and began to drive, she would drive produce trucks into Washington, D.C., and sell her daddy’s produce at the farmers market at RFK stadium.

Pam graduated from Thomas Stone High School in 1989. Pam worked several jobs in the area before becoming a Navy wife in 1994. She worked at Beretta, U.S.A. in Accokeek; she worked at the Naval Ordinance Station in Indian Head; and along with her mom, she had a lucrative housecleaning business. After marrying her husband Daniel, she lived in various parts of the U.S. including San Diego, Calif., Waukegan, Ill., and Buckroe Beach, finally settling in the Northern Neck and raising her family.

When her son, Dalton, started school, Pam started to look for work again. Always an avid animal lover, she steered towards that profession and started working for Scissors & Suds in White Stone, where she learned the art of grooming from the late Mary Francis Robertson until being hired on by the late Dr. Joyce at Bayside Animal Hospital & Pet Emporium, also in White Stone.

In 2018, with the help of countless friends and family, Pam and her business partner, Travis Evans, opened 4 Leggers, Daycare, Boarding & Grooming in Irvington.

Pam loved every minute and every client at 4 Leggers and cherished all the relationships that came along with being a business owner. She cherished spending time with her grandson, Baby Drake, and was hoping for a lot more memories with him. Along with her husband, she enjoyed doing genealogy research and was surprised to find out she was related to 18 past presidents and one presidential assassin.

A visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, at Currie Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, Md.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the medical workers at Riverside Cancer Center and Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester, Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News and Riverside Hospice in Gloucester.
