WHITE STONE—Patricia Flester Beers died of natural causes August 28 at the age of 87.

The daughter of Francis and Fredrick (Buster) Flester, she was born and raised in Laurel, Md., but loved the Rappahannock River and had been summering at White Stone Beach since a child before permanently moving here in 1980.

Pat attended Maryland University and graduated with a Master of Fine Arts from Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore, Md. She was a member of the Washington Guild of Calligraphers, a founding member of The Artisans, an artists co-op that began in the 80s, artist-in-residence for the Episcopal Cathedral of Saint John in Jacksonville, Fla., where she also, through Planned Parenthood, helped develop a system of sign language in the 1970s for sex education for Gallaudet University of Washington, D.C.

As a woman of her times, she volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and marched for abortion rights, human rights, gay, black, Native American and artistic freedom rights.

She was a longtime member of the Lancaster Players and a volunteer at Rappahannock General Hospital.

She is survived by her daughters, Amy Masonis (Steve Bowen) and Cary Olmedo; her two wonderful grandchildren, Jessica Zborovsky (Igor) and Nikolas Olmedo; her brother, Kenneth Flester Sr. (Dixie); and many nephews.

After life, through her anatomical donation, she helped many medical programs including emergency responder training program, orthopedic surgeons, residents and fellows training, a training lab for anesthesiology and pain management for new minimally invasive techniques, medical students and professionals in emergency medicine fields to name some of what her gift has given through the Anatomical Gift Registry that will help medicine, doctors and people in the future of medicine!
