APPOMATTOX—Patricia Margaret (née Herring) Brownell passed away peacefully after a short illness on March 31, 2021.
She was born February 1, 1943, to Charles E. Herring Jr. and Margaret Elois (née Hilgartner) Herring in Baltimore, Md.
Pat is predeceased by her parents; her daughter, Carrie R. Brownell; her husband of 48 years, David M. Brownell; and her brother, Charles E. “Bud” Herring III.
Surviving to celebrate her life are her children, Deborah Thomas (Evans) of Appomattox and Jeff Brownell (Karen) of Clinton, N.J.; her beloved grandchildren, Caroline, Olivia, Harry, Claire and Catherine; and many nieces and nephews.
Pat’s fondest memory as a child was her time spent in Riviera Beach, Md. Pat and Dave raised their family in Lebanon Township, N.J., where Pat was an active member of Lower Valley Presbyterian Church and instrumental in establishing Happy Face Nursery School.
Pat pursued a professional career as a computer programmer with ADP (formerly OMR) in Princeton, N.J. Pat and Dave retired to Burgess, where Pat enjoyed her time with the Northern Neck Garden Club and Northumberland Master Gardeners.
In 2014, Pat moved to Appomattox, continuing to be active in the Appomattox Master Gardeners and Garden Club and enjoying fellowship at Appomattox Courthouse Presbyterian Church and with her exercise group.
A private family service officiated by Rev. Janice Fraser was held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 3, at Appomattox Court House Presbyterian Church, followed by a socially distanced fellowship at the residence of Deb and Evans Thomas, 2332 Oakville Road, Appomattox.
