For approximately 30 years, Polly served as a bus driver and aide for Henrico County Public Schools. Her work was more than just a job—it was a daily opportunity to care for and connect with generations of students. Beyond her professional role, Polly gave countless hours to the Henrico Volunteer Rescue Squad. Over the years, she held various ranking leadership positions within the organization, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to helping others and supporting emergency services in her community.

Polly’s life was rich with love and laughter. She is survived by her devoted husband, Don P. Akers; daughters Norma J. Ross, Becky S. Akers and Laura L. Walsh; grandchildren, Kincade Ross (Kayla), Georgia Olivier, Jacob Olivier, Keegan Ross, Adin Adkins, Kruz Ross and Avan Adkins; great-grandchildren, Wilder Ross and McKenna Henkel; brothers, Stanford Crockett and Ned Crockett; and sister-in-law, Shirley Crockett.

Polly found joy in simple pleasures—camping at Kerr Lake with family and friends was one of her favorite pastimes. She cherished those moments under the stars surrounded by laughter and love. A lifelong lover of words, she enjoyed playing Words With Friends or any word game that challenged her sharp mind and expansive vocabulary. She also loved reading and watching shows like The Voice, American Idol, or Jeopardy—programs that reflected her appreciation for talent and quick wit.

Known for her honesty and humor, Polly had a personality that left an impression wherever she went. When asked how she was doing, she would often reply with a smile: “Old, fat and sassy. God is good and I’m fine.” Her sarcasm was legendary among those who knew her best—her primary language—and she never hesitated to speak her mind with candor wrapped in affection.
