Rancourt wins 100-yard rimfire benchrest match

The Rappahannock Pistol and Rifle Club (RPRC) conducted a rimfire benchrest rifle match on Saturday, August 15.

Mike Rancourt shot a 228 with 11 X’s to place first. Dave Tramutola placed second, 223 with 10 X’s; and Jan Jamrog, third, 221 with 8 X’s. Caren Puckett shot a 214 with 8 X’s to place first for the ladies.

“The 15 competitors for this very challenging and popular rifle match enjoyed a sunny morning with some gusting winds which added to the challenge of the match but all enjoyed the event,” said competition director Dean Sherick.

Points were awarded to the top finishers and the first-place winners received an etched glass commemorating the match.

The match requires shooters to fire from a bench where the rifle may be supported at the front and rear at a target, which is placed 100 yards away, said Sherick. The match calls for very precise shooting and refined skills….
