Rappahannock and Colonial Beach advance to regional scholastic bowl

Rappahannock High School upset Colonial Beach by 10 points in the Northern Neck District scholastic bowl championship match on Wednesday, January 14.

The Raiders beat Lancaster, 295-90, in a semifinal round before edging the Drifters, 220-210, in the final.

Colonial Beach had won the regular season district championship.

The Drifters advanced to the final with a 265-40 win over Northumberland in a semifinal.

Both Colonial Beach and Rappahannock will represent the district in the Class 1 Region A championship tournament starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, at Colonial Beach.

Callen Meier of Colonial Beach was named the district player of the year and was one of four named to the all-district first team, which included Noah Foster of Colonial Beach and Elijah Kaski and Gabby Lewis, both of Rappahannock.

The second team included Evelyn Saunders of Northumberland, Nathan Meberg of Lancaster, David Allen of Colonial Beach and Sean Headley of Rappahannock.
