Rappahannock climbs state baseball tournament ladder; Lancaster reaches regional semifinal

Rappahannock moved a step closer to reclaiming the Class 1 state title last week, beating Northumberland, 10-0, in the Region 1A championship and defeating William Campbell, 12-2, in this week’s state tournament quarterfinal.

The defending state champ, Rappahannock is taking a 19-3 record into the state semifinal as the Northern Neck District regular season and Region 1A tournament champion.

The Raiders advanced to the regional final with a 5-0 semifinal win over Lancaster on Tuesday, June 3, when Brayden Hayes tossed a one-hitter in seven innings. Lancaster only had five baserunners in the game, four coming on walks.

Brady Vanlandingham went 1-for-2 and produced Lancaster’s only hit in the top of the sixth when the Red Devils had their best chance to….
