Rappahannock’s Cauthorn, Slaw, Brann and Syster named to All-State softball team

The Rappahannock Raiders placed four on the 2022 Class 1 All-State softball team after finishing as a state quarterfinalist.

Virginia High School League’s director of communications Mike McCall announced the 2022 Class 1 All-State team last week. Auburn’s junior pitcher Kirsten Fleet was named player of the year and Auburn’s Tim Smoot was chosen as the coach of the year.

Fleet went 8-0 with 116 strikeouts in 48 innings in Auburn’s post-season run to the state championship. She pitched a no-hitter in the Eagles’ 10-0 win over Riverheads in the state final and a perfect game in the 3-0 win over Buffalo Gap in the state semifinals. As the state champion, Auburn filled four spots on the state’s first team.

Rappahannock’s senior pitcher MacKenzie Cauthorn and junior at-large player Candace Slaw were named to the first team, while the Raiders’ junior outfielders Norah Brann and Madison Syster were both named to the second team.

Rappahannock was the only Northern Neck District team with any all-state….
