The Northern Neck District’s Rappahannock and Washington & Lee placed players on the 2022 Class 1 All-State boys soccer team released last week by the Virginia High School League’s director of communications Mike McCall.
Auburn senior midfielder Chris Neal, who led his team to the state semifinals, was honored as the Class 1 player of the year and Galax High’s James Kohl was named the coach of the year.
Neal and three other Auburn teammates were named to the first team. Neal scored 22 goals and had a school-record 15 assists this year.
Kohl led Galax to the state championship, the school’s sixth state championship in the last eight seasons, with COVID-19 cancelling the 2020 season.
Rappahannock, which finished as a state semifinalist, placed three on the first team and one on the second, while W&L had two second-team selections…..
