
by Lisa Hinton-Valdrighi Water and speed don’t usually mix. But it did last Saturday on a rainy day in the Shenandoah Valley. The best-of-the-best athletes in track and field braved steady rain and a chilly breeze at East Rockingham High School in Elkton during the Class 1/2 state meet. Lancaster High School athletes met the challenge and brought home some hardware. The LHS boys team medalled (top 8) in 11 events to score 52.5 points for third place in the state. Auburn won the state championship with 114 points and Patrick Henry was the runner-up with 88. Lancaster edged Middlesex by half a point. The Chargers were fourth with 52 points and the Northern Neck’s Essex was eighth with 30. Lancaster’s girls medalled in three events to score 13 points for 13th place among 32 teams… |
