The Lancaster High School golf team captured its second trophy in as many weeks with its sights set on reclaiming the state crown.
The Red Devils had a team score of 331, 31 strokes better than second place Northumberland, to win the Region 1A tournament championship Tuesday, October 3, at the Golden Eagle in Irvington.
Next stop was the Class 1 state round in Floyd County where the Devils hoped to win their second state championship in three years. Lancaster won the Class 1 trophy in 2021 but failed to successfully defend the title last year.
Pierson Long, playing in the number five spot, came through with a 40 on the front nine and a 39 on the back, to shoot a 7-over par 79 and lead LHS to last week’s regional tournament win.
As has been typical with the Devils all season long, any player can shoot the team low on any given day….
