KILMARNOCK—In a tight race on Tuesday, April 21, voters approved a constitutional amendment allowing the General Assembly to temporarily adopt new congressional districts prior to the 2030 census, with 1,574,505, or 51.45%, voting in favor and 1,485,657, or 48.55%, voting no.
All results are unofficial, according to the Virginia Department of Elections (www.elections.virginia.gov).
In Northumberland County, with 6,391 ballots cast, 59% turnout, voters rejected the constitutional amendment with 4,132, or 64.65%, voting no and 2,259, 35.35%, voting yes. Of the ballots cast, 52.4% voted early, 5.6% voted by mail and 42% voted on Election Day.
It was a closer race in Lancaster County, but the result was the same. With 5,788 ballots cast, 60% turnout, voters rejected the ballot measure with 3,434, 59.34%, voting no and 2,353, 40.66%, voting yes. Of the ballots cast, 49.3% took part in early voting, 6.2% voted by mail and 44.5% voted on Election Day.
