Ahoy all sailors! The Turkey Shoot Regatta, in support of local Hospice programs, will be held on the Rappahannock River from September 30 to October 2.
Two historic sailing vessels will participate in the program: the skipjack Claude W. Somers based at the Reedville Fisherman’s Museum, and the replica 48-foot Virginia sloop Luna of the Colonial Seaport Foundation, recently refitted and re-launched in Deltaville, reported Tom Wicks, a director of the Rappahannock River Yacht Club (RRYC) and a member of the 2022 Hospice Turkey Shoot Regatta committee.
Based at Rappahannock Yachts on Carter Creek in Irvington, the regatta plans to host perhaps 100 classic sailing monohulls, from 18 feet and up, said Wicks.
Co-hosted each year by the RRYC and the Yankee Point Racing and Cruising Club, it is broadly supported by generous donations from the business community.
Those who register by September 1 (turkeyshoot.org or yachtscoring.com) will enjoy both a discount (only $95) and have their boat name printed on the regatta Tee-shirt, which has become a collector’s item….
