With their sights set on repeating as the Class 1 state champions, Lancaster High School golfers have gotten off to a 3-1 start, with the only loss coming to a Class 3 team.
“The attitude is we’re gonna win it again and everybody’s willing to put in the work to do it,” said coach Rob Pittman, who returns five from last year’s state championship team.
The Red Devils have already posted some impressive scores. The team score of 347 in its 14-stroke win over King William August 16 was just a few strokes off of last year’s state championship score. Lancaster won the 2021-22 Class 1 championship with a team score of 342. The second place team in the state, Galax, shot a 349.
“I think we can win it again, especially after the score we shot against King William. That would have won states last year,” said Pittman. “We have some key players missing, so it’ll be a different approach. But we also have some young players that are playing pretty good right now….
