Rev. Rita A. Callis

RICHMOND—Rev. Rita A. Callis of Richmond passed away in her home on October 5, 2018.

Rita was the daughter of Myrtle Proctor and J. Friedenwald Callis of Cobbs Creek. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Caldwell; and her brother, J. Wayne Callis.

Rita is survived by her sisters, Linda Simmons (Milton), Janie Davis (Jimmy); and her brothers, Melvin Callis (Brenda), Richard Callis (Jamie) and Leonard Callis (Millie).

Rita served as a United Methodist Minister for 40 years, beginning with her first church in Northumberland County and her most recent appointment at Lakeside United Methodist Church in Henrico. She also served as superintendent for the Farmville District.

Lovingly referred to as “Rev. Rita,” she devoted her life to the church and to her community through teaching, counseling and pastoral care.

There will be a memorial service for Rita at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, at Centenary UMC, 411 East Grace Street, Richmond, Va. 23219.
