RHS places second in volleyball; Raiders dominate all-region squad

Rappahannock High School finished as the Class 1 state girls volleyball runner-up last Saturday after a 3-1 loss to Auburn in the final.

On the way to the final, the Raiders won both the Northern Neck and Region 1A tournament championships and amassed a 30-2 record with the only losses coming to Class 4 Courtland during the regular season and state champion Auburn at Salem Civic Center last Saturday. This was Rappahannock’s first trip to the state championship match in school history.

Senior Candace Slaw was named the region’s player of the year and joined four teammates earning a spot on the all-region first team. The Region 1A honors were released following the state tournament.

Slaw, seniors Ellie Christopher, Anne Lee Harris, junior Virginia Trible and sophomore Sadie Packett are all named to the region’s first team. Christopher was chosen as the first-team libero.

Region runner-up Middlesex filled four spots on the team….
