The Reedville Fishermen’s Museum (RFM) launched its Winter Lecture Series on Monday, January 13, with a presentation by Eddie Rittenhouse, model maker.

Rittenhouse is a retired Northern Neck waterman who decided some years ago to try his hand at model making. He has created over 50 models of fish boats out of cardboard. “Many of my models are simply crafted from old Coke cartons,” he said.

Fish boat and menhaden enthusiasts truly enjoyed his lecture on the boats he’s crafted and some history behind the vessels, reported executive director Shauna McCranie.

RFM will hold its next lecture at 6:30 p.m. February 3 at the Fairfield’s Volunteer Fire Department, 119 Main Street, Reedville. The lecture will feature the Tidewater Oyster Gardeners Association (TOGA) and Oystering 101. Pre-register for this event at www.oystergardners.org/oyster-gardening-101.

RFM lectures are free to the public; we will have a donation jar to support our nonprofit activities.
