Roland W. Courtney

Roland W. Courtney

HERNANDO, FL—Roland Walker “R.W.” Courtney, 66, of Hernando, Florida, passed away, surrounded by his children, on April 8, 2023.

He is survived by his sons, James Courtney of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Lt. Morgan Courtney (Ashleigh) of San Diego, Calif. (U.S. Navy); his daughter, Taylor Marshall (Tyler) of Brandon, Fla.; his brother, Allan Courtney of Ottoman; and two beloved friends, Victor Pickett and Ray Walker.

He is predeceased by his parents, Roland and Hilda Courtney.

Roland was a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University. He raised his family in Solomons, Md., where he was employed by Constellation Energy as supervisor–radiation protection. He previously worked in a similar capacity for Florida Power & Light, Stuart, Fla.

R.W. was a lifetime member of Corrottoman Baptist Church, with a renewal in his walk with Christ in recent years. R.W. loved cooking, watching old westerns, 70s music, and NCAA football and baseball. He was a voracious reader, particularly in the subjects of Virginia, Civil War, or World War II history. He had a keen eye for antiques, horticulture and both the interior and exterior design of homes.

He was most happy though, at home in Lancaster County. R.W. loved sitting back, looking over the water, enjoying the company of those he loved. He was a devoted friend, son, brother and father; and his presence will be missed by all who loved him.

Local arrangements will be handled by Currie Funeral Home, services pending. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Corrottoman Baptist Church, 48 Ottoman Ferry Road, Lancaster, VA 22503.
