RRYC Typhoon Fall Racing season begins

Mad Cow finished first in race 3.

The Rappahannock River Yacht Club (RRYC) Typhoon Fall Racing season opened Wednesday, August 19. Seven Cape Dory Typhoons gathered for the first outing.

“A few of our regular competitors were out of town and did not participate so I expect the fleet to grow once summer travel ends,” said fleet captain Kevin Stepko.

The race committee led by the principal race officer Peter Larabee conducted three races, dealing with light and variable winds. The crews often had to adjust to significant changes to wind speed and direction throughout each race.

Throughout the evening, Gold Finch, crewed by Ian Ormesher and Judy Fay, anticipated and reacted to the shifting conditions to capture two firsts and….
