Rucking recognizes Independence Day

Army Sgt. Esaw Lee and recruit Collin Daw on their eight-mile ruck march from Burgess to Reedville on Saturday, July 2.

What started in 2020 as an answer to a pandemic-cancelled parade has turned into a practice that Army Sgt. Esaw Lee intends to perform every Independence Day he is in town for the holiday.

That year, Lee, Manny Paiz (Army, retired), and Wyatt McCranie (Marine Corps), carried the U.S. flag and the flags of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines as a way of paying homage to all of the soldiers who have fought for independence.

Lee has incorporated Army standards for a ruck march….
